About Andrew Etheridge IV

Primary Academic Title

Instructor in Art as Applied to Medicine

Background

Andrew Etheridge comes to Hopkins with over 10 years of experience in the field of clinical anaplastology, creating custom facial, ocular, and somatic prostheses.  He serves the Facial and Somatic Clinic within the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine and teaches the newly established graduate program in Clinical Anaplastology.

In his previous role, Andrew collaborated with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons from Duke University and the School of Dentistry at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in challenging reconstructive cases. He creates craniofacial devices including prostheses for large facial defects, custom cranioplasty implants, surgical guides/models, mandible prostheses, graduated ocular conformers for pediatric patients, ocular/scleral shell prostheses, custom breast prostheses, and somatic prostheses (functional and passive fingers/toes/feet/hands).  Andrew is one of few practitioners worldwide holding credentials in anaplastology as well as mastectomy care, pedorthics, and orthotic fitting. His services provide treatment options to patients for whom surgical reconstruction alone cannot restore facial features or the appearance of limbs and digits. His custom prosthetic devices allow patients to resume activities of daily living.

Mr. Etheridge received his MFA from University of North Carolina at Greensboro, BA from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and has completed extensive postgraduate clinical training.  He has served as the Director of the Board for the International Anaplastology Association (IAA) and currently serves as Vice President- Elect on the Board of Directors for Certification in Clinical Anaplastology (BCCA). He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthitsts & Prosthetists (AAOP), American Society of Ocularists (ASO), and the Pedorthic Footcare Association (PFA).

Mr. Etheridge has made multiple contributions in the field of anaplastology presenting his work nationally, internationally, and featuring in clinical textbooks and publications. Since joining the profession in 2011, Andrew has received numerous awards, grants, and recognitions for leadership and excellence within the field.  He strives to push the specialty forward, using new techniques, 3D technology, and innovative materials to facilitate the best patient care possible.
