Patient Population
- The Medical Intensive Care Unit at The Johns Hopkins Hospital specializes in the care of a high acuity patient population with complex medical diagnoses. The majority of our diagnoses include, but are not limited to: end stage renal & hepatic disease, multisystem organ failure, newly diagnosed or existing autoimmune & pulmonary disorders, the critically ill antepartum/ postpartum patient, the critically ill oncology patient.

Comprehensive critical care for patients with complex neurological disorders and disease processes. This includes the management of neurology and neurosurgical patients. Diagnoses include traumatic injuries to the brain and spinal cord, tumors of the CNS, spinal disorders, cerebrovascular disorders, hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, neuromuscular diseases, status epilepticus, infectious diseases of the CNS. Interventions include advanced neurological assessment and monitoring, monitoring of intracranial pressure, comprehensive cardiac monitoring, ventilatory support, continuous renal replacement therapies, EEG monitoring
