Johns Hopkins Researchers Sequence Coast Redwood and Giant Sequoia Mega-Genomes
04/24/2019
Johns Hopkins teams with U.C. Davis and Save the Redwoods League to chart genomes of California's giant trees. Since the California gold rush in 1949, coast redwood and giant sequoia trees have experienced an unprecedented loss of genetic diversity to logging. Researchers and conservationists are working to understand and protect the genetic diversity that is left in the forests, and in some areas, restore what was lost.
