China Northwest International Medical Center (CNIMC) has signed a consulting agreement with Johns Hopkins Medicine International to help develop CNIMC’s hospital policy, procedure and management structure.

CNIMC is a greenfield project, which means a new hospital will be built from the ground up. Its vision is to create a world-class medical center in Xi’an, the largest city in the northwest region of China, to serve the complex and advanced health care needs of the region and beyond.

For 20 years, Johns Hopkins Medicine International has served as the global ambassador of the Johns Hopkins Medicine mission by developing sustainable, innovative collaborations that raise the standard of health care around the world, and providing personalized care for diverse populations.

Under this agreement, experts from Johns Hopkins will consult with CNIMC leaders in areas including the design and development of the hospital master plan, governance model, clinical programs and talent resources. The agreement also includes the provision of education and training activities for CNIMC leadership, as well as assistance in preparing for globally recognized accreditation and laboratory certification.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work with our colleagues to help create China Northwest International Medical Center and see it fulfill its vision to advance care for patients with complex or rare conditions,” says Charles Wiener, M.D., acting president of Johns Hopkins Medicine International and professor of medicine and physiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Xi’an is the capital of Shanxi Province, and home to universities and hospitals with which CNIMC will seek to build connections with the help of Johns Hopkins.

“The collaboration between China Northwest International Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Medicine International will write a new chapter for the internationalization and modernization of China's health care industry,” says Selena Zhou, vice chair and executive president of China Northwest International Medical Center and one of the project’s main investors. “Our vision is to create a close-knit organization of excellence in medical technology, health care operations, humanism, research and education; to contribute to the health of patients; to pay for a patient and family-centered care model; and to make a better tomorrow for China and the United States.”
