The Saturday Sessions

The Saturday Morning Neuro-Ophthalmology Conferences began during Frank B. Walsh, M.D.’s residency in 1934. Walsh conducted clinical demonstrations and discussions of patients with ocular manifestations of neurologic and systemic disease. Neil R. Miller, M.D., began co-leading the conferences with Dr. Walsh in 1976 and continued on his own after Dr. Walsh's passing in 1978.

Miller says in those days, Wilmer was virtually the only eye department in the country to have Saturday morning conferences, which were attended by ophthalmology residents, fellows, faculty and private practitioners, as well as neurologists and neurosurgeons. The conferences gave them a chance to share cases that involved neuro-ophthalmic manifestations.
