Wilmer's First Research Paper

The Therapeutic Use of Tuberculin in Ocular Tuberculosis
In 1928, Benjamin Rones, M.D. and Alan C. Woods, M.D. published the first research paper from the Wilmer Eye Institute, titled The Therapeutic Use of Tuberculin in Ocular Tuberculosis. Their findings, which suggested that ocular tuberculosis could be treated with tuberculin therapy, were controversial at the time.
"Treatment for ocular tuberculosis (TB) has advanced considerably over the last 100years," says Jennifer Thorne, M.D., Ph.D., the Cross Family Professor of Ophthalmology and chief of the Division of Ocular Immunology at Wilmer. "Now with combination anti-TB antibiotics, patients with ocular TB may avoid long-term visual loss and recurrences of the disease."
