Matias Lopez Chacon Joins Neurology Team

Pediatric neurologist Matias Lopez Chacon joined the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hough Family Institute for Brain Protection Sciences in St. Petersburg, Florida. He specializes in neuromuscular medicine, any problems with the nerves, muscles or their connections, treating conditions such as spinal muscular atrophy, myasthenia gravis and muscular dystrophies. He also performs electromyography and nerve conductions studies in children of all ages. 

He was previously division chief of pediatric neuromuscular medicine at Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. 

Lopez Chacon earned his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador — School of Medicine. He completed a pediatric residency at John Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Illinois. He completed a residency in child neurology at Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He then completed a pediatric neuromuscular medicine fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital/Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. 

He speaks English and Spanish.
