Johns Hopkins All Childrens Celebrates 2024 Residency Graduation
Looking out at the 2024 graduating class from the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Pediatric Residency program, George Jallo, M.D., crystalizes their journey and why it matters:
“You have learned not just the science of medicine but also the art of caring for the smallest and most vulnerable members of our society,” says Jallo, vice dean and physician-in-chief at the hospital. “You have witnessed the resilience of children in the face of illness, the strength of families in times of crisis, and the profound impact that a caring and competent physician can have on a young life.
“Your dedication to the well-being of your patients, your thirst for knowledge, and your unwavering commitment to excellence have set you apart as exceptional caregivers and advocates for children. Your patients have trusted you with their health, their hopes, and their futures, and you have risen to the challenge with compassion, empathy and skill.”
Celebrating Saturday at the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Research and Education Building, their home base for the past three years in St. Petersburg, Florida, the 12 graduates make up the eighth class to complete residency training since the program began in 2014.
Mary Beth Wroblewski, M.D., says this group will hold a special place in her memory as the first group of graduates since she became director of the program.
“This group is destined to make an impact on pediatric medicine,” Wroblewski says. “It has been a thrill to learn with and from them as we’ve gotten to know each other and hone our ability to care for and advocate for kids.”
Along with diplomas for the graduates, several received awards, including:
- Resident of the Year: Isabel Hendrickson, M.D.
- Resident Scholar of the Year: Carolena Trocchia, M.D.
- Resident “All We Do” Award: Dinah Batchelor, M.D.
- Allen W. Root, M.D., Award for Continuous Excellence in Residency: Isabel Hendrickson, M.D.
As the graduates step into the next phase of their careers, Jallo assured them they are ready for what’s to come.
“The road ahead may be daunting, filled with challenges and uncertainties, but I have no doubt that each one of you is more than prepared to face whatever comes your way,” he says. “You have been tested and tried during your residency, and you have emerged stronger, more resilient, and more compassionate than ever before.”
