Shannon Mazza, R.N., a clinical team leader in the CVICU, is the DAISY Award recipient. She was nominated for this honor by several colleagues who wrote:

“Shannon is incredible. As a traveling nurse, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Shannon on multiple occasions. She is constantly checking on her team, jumping in to answer questions and complete any task that is asked of her. She is a fierce advocate not only for her patients but for her colleagues. Shannon makes you feel supported and cared for.”

“Whether you’re a new or seasoned nurse, Shannon is always looking for opportunities to help teach. She rounds with the medical team and knows everything about each patient on the floor. It’s things like jumping in to help stock carts just to make sure her nurses have the supplies they need – something so little that sometimes goes unnoticed but helps make our jobs significantly less stressful.”

“Johns Hopkins All Children’s values patient care and creating a safe environment for children to heal, and so does Shannon. She is kind, always optimistic and provides excellent care. I’m so lucky to work alongside her! Shannon is excellent.”

“Shannon is kind, respectful and knowledgeable. As a charge nurse, she uses her excellent skills to help educate others. With her friendly, upbeat personality she makes the job look easy.”

Shannon’s manager added:

“Shannon started in the CVICU as a nursing resident and has grown tremendously over the years. She has excelled as a night shift leader. Her passion for our cardiac patients is evident in how dedicated she is to this team and unit. I love how eager Shannon is to learn and grow, and then immediately share her knowledge with the team. We are so thankful to have her and excited for Shannon to receive this award!”

Congratulations, Shannon, and thank you for your commitment to patient- and family-centered care.
