With baby Cecilia Orlofsky in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (PCICU) at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, the entire Orlofsky family recently collaborated on an art project in collaboration with artist-in-residence Linnea Payne and child life specialist Rosemary Hawkins. The artwork was started by painting the background and trunk of the tree with acrylic paint on canvas. Then Cecilia’s mom, Hayley, took the canvas home so that each family member could add green fingerprint “leaves” to the tree. The artwork was finished back in the PCICU, where Cecilia’s toe prints were added as pink “flower blossoms.” Says Payne: “This beautiful work of art helped to facilitate sibling bonding and unity of the family as a whole.”
