Robert Drummond, M.D., Ph.D. ’12 and Rory Goodwin M.D., Ph.D. ’10 understand the power of giving back. Both are champions of the Hopkins MSTP and strong advocates for diversity within the program. Their passion and dedication dates back to their student days when they designed the crest for the program. Twelve years later they continue to give back. Drummond and Goodwin are generously splitting the cost to provide students graduating in 2023 with a custom class ring engraved with the MSTP crest. While the original plan was to surprise the students, there was no getting around having to ask each student for their ring size.
“I have always felt incredibly fortunate to be a part of the Johns Hopkins MSTP, which has undoubtedly opened many doors for me in my career,” said Drummond. “Twelve years ago, Dr. Goodwin and I wanted to create something that would unite and bond each student that joins the Hopkins MSTP family; the Johns Hopkins MSTP crest and logo was the end result. This year, we designed custom class rings using the official MSTP crest, and thought it would be a great idea to gift rings to the entire graduating class of 2023. It is our sincere hope that this type of gift will inspire other MSTP alumni to give back and support our program.”
“Dr. Drummond and I, like many other Johns Hopkins MSTP students, will always be eternally grateful for the guidance, mentorship, as well as support we received while we were students of the program and now as graduates of the program,” said Goodwin. “I think both personally and professionally the relationships that we have created through the MSTP have placed us in an optimal position to succeed in all of our endeavors. With that said, the creation of the class ring was our way of embodying the overall bond that we hope that all graduates of the program will and do have. Our gift to the graduating class is just a symbol of that bond, appreciation, and brotherhood/sisterhood/otherhood that we hope is carried forth in all their endeavors as well.”
Students will receive their rings ahead of graduation in 2023.
