Three Johns Hopkins Medicine hospitals have named new leaders in recent months. And Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital has tapped a Johns Hopkins leader to assume its top post.

Jessica Melton began as president and chief operating officer of Suburban Hospital on April 15. She joined Suburban from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, where she was the chief operating officer. Before arriving at Sentara, Melton held leadership roles at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.

Shafeeq Ahmed began as the new president of Howard County General Hospital on June 29. In addition to serving as vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at Howard County General, Ahmed since November 2020 has led the hospital as its president in an interim capacity. He has served in numerous positions of health care leadership, including as chief medical officer and chief operating officer at two hospitals within the Baystate Health system in Massachusetts.

K. Alicia Schulhof began as the new president of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, in Florida, on July 26. She joins Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital from Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, where she served as president for the past year. Previously, Schulhof spent more than 17 years leading complex health care organizations, including Indiana University Health and HCA Healthcare.

Robert S.D. Higgins, the surgeon-in-chief at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, as well as the director of the Department of Surgery and the senior associate dean for diversity and inclusion for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will be leaving to become the president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and executive vice president at Mass General Brigham, in Boston. He will begin his new position on December 1.
