At The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH), our patients and their families trust that the care we provide will not only be of the highest quality but that it will also be offered in the safest possible environment. That’s why, as part of our continuing effort to support the well-being of all who come through our doors, we are making changes to our tobacco-free policy.
Effective Sept. 1, The Johns Hopkins Hospital will join other hospitals and health systems across the country in choosing to implement a tobacco free at work policy. Under the new policy:
- JHH employees and anyone else working in the hospital may no longer use tobacco/vape products during their work shifts. This includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes and vape pens.
- Tobacco/vape products may also not be used during meals or on breaks — on or off campus.
- Patients and visitors will be asked not to use tobacco/vape products while at the hospital. While this change may be difficult for some employees, the hospital is committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. A tobacco free at work guide will provide a list of resources, including nicotine replacement products and tobacco-cessation programs, to help prepare staff members to be tobacco free during their workday.
