Cells in the mouse’s breast duct, known as “myoepithelial” cells, shown here in green, can contract and expand just like muscles! When they’re not helping to move milk, they use this ability to protect against cancer metastasis. They shift around and pull cancer cells back into the duct, keeping them from escaping and invading other parts of the body.
