While Johns Hopkins Medicine continues to expand its reach—with affiliated clinics now in places as far-flung as the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Brazil and Turkey—our department is also expanding, though somewhat closer, in the National Capital Region. In the next two years, new Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery faculty members will begin seeing patients at Suburban Hospital, a community hospital member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Our department has been steadily growing its capacity to care for patients near our nation’s capital since soon after Johns Hopkins Medicine acquired Suburban Hospital in 2009. Currently, three of our faculty members practice there, including laryngologist Clin tAllen, otologist/neurotologist Wade Chien, and sinus and skull base surgeon Murugappan Ramanathan, as well as audiologists. Soon, they’ll be joined by a speech-language pathologist, two head and neck oncologic surgeons, and a head and neck reconstructive surgeon.

These additions to our team will allow us to provide even more of our outstanding care to neighbors in Bethesda, Washington, D.C., and other communities in southern Maryland and northern Virginia. These services will now include multidisciplinary head and neck cancer care and cochlear implants. These faculty members will also strengthen our link with the National Institutes of Health, as a number of them are physician-scientists with intramural funded research programs there. 

As we continue to grow, so do the ways in which we can better serve our patients now and in the future.
