Neurosurgery Translational Research Center in Honor of Henry Brem

In recognition of Henry Brem’s 40 years on neurosurgery faculty and the last 25 years of service as the director of the Johns Hopkins Department of Neurosurgery, we invite you to join our Illuminating Hope Campaign to support the creation of the Neurosurgery Translational Research Center in Honor of Henry Brem. The center will focus on funding late-stage neurosurgery-related research. It will provide critical funding and valuable mentorship from Dr. Brem: two elements required to bridge the gap between demonstrating proof of concept for a new therapeutic or procedure to bringing it to clinical trial and to the direct benefit of patients.

Illuminating Hope

For Clinican-Scientists

By helping to bridge this translation research gap — which is often referred to as the “valley of death” because the lack of funding causes many promising discoveries to fail to translate into effective treatments or therapies — the center will illuminate hope for our researchers.

For Patients

Every breakthrough in neurosurgery research illuminates hope for our patients and their families. The center will offer researchers funding, mentorship and access to state-of-the-art resources with a goal of bringing today’s discoveries to the bedside of patients at Johns Hopkins — and around the globe — as soon as possible.

How We'll Put Your Donations to Work

Half of donations will be allocated for current use to actively run the center, and the other half will be directed to an endowment to sustain the center and carry forth Henry Brem’s legacy in perpetuity.

Research Grants

The center will offer grant funding for neurosurgery-related research to Johns Hopkins faculty on an annual/biannual basis. A grant review committee will assess all applications to decide the recipients/amount of the funds granted.
