Foundations of Assessment and Evaluation Course

This course focuses on the basics of learner assessment. Participants will learn about commonly used assessment frameworks and methods and discuss controversies and challenges in learner assessment.

Course Content Includes:

  • Describe the purpose of assessment in competency based medical education.
  • Compare and contrast formative and summative assessment and describe when to use each.
  • Apply assessment frameworks and methods to a specific teaching setting using principles of constructive alignment.
  • Appraise assessment tools based on defined criteria of usefulness.
  • Describe equity and bias in assessment and provide examples of how these apply to specific teaching settings.
  • List measures of an appropriate and targeted assessment approach.

Course Fee: $450 – eligible for use of tuition remission benefit. Complete the e-form at the end of the registration process to exercise the benefit.
