Osler Housestaff Research Program
Introduction
This is a suite of web pages devoted to enhancing the research experience of the Osler Residency Training Program.
One part of this experience is critical appraisal of the published literature. The Osler Journal Club tackles critical appraisal in a monthly series of seminars. Junior residents select articles representing a wide range of study designs, discuss the articles with faculty members, and then present the article to their colleagues and participate in a critical review. There are three faculty leaders of the Journal Club, each one a general internist-clinical epidemiologist: Drs. Jeanne Clark, Hunter Young, and Nisa Maruthur.
The Osler Housestaff Research Program offers several inter-locking components:
- It offers financial support to cover research expenses. This support derives from the Osler Fund for Scholarship.
- The Program offers research mentoring and support, which employs a PhD epidemiologist, Dr. Jessica Yeh, with expertise in form design, data management, and statistical analysis. Dr. Yeh helps house officers overcome methodological obstacles. Analysis support is available in her team.
- The Program creates and assembles Tools for Housestaff Research. These tools include statistical software, links to institutional resources (like the IRBs and ICTR), and guides written by Osler houseofficers.
