The Johns Hopkins Academic Women's Health Fellowship Track in General Internal Medicine (GIM)
The goal of the Johns Hopkins Academic Women’s Health Fellowship in GIM is to train women’s health providers to provide exceptional, comprehensive care for women and to become academic leaders in the field of women’s health.
The women’s health fellowship is one of the fellowship tracks housed within the GIM Fellowship — one of the nation's premier fellowship training programs in academic general internal medicine.
The GIM Fellowship has produced more than 140 alumni who have made their marks as clinicians, researchers, educators and leaders.

Clinical women’s health fellows will partake in a one-year longitudinal curriculum in clinical women’s health. Fellows will also be given the option to pursue additional training in medical education or research.

Clinical Track: Fellows pursuing the one-year clinical track will participate in the clinical curriculum, which includes the following components:
- Longitudinal curriculum on core women’s health topics
- Provide women’s health consultations
- Provide primary care for women
- Rotate through subspecialties with women’s health experts (including obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, oncology, dermatology, obesity, urology, pelvic floor physical therapy, psychiatry, and more)
- Pursue certification to become a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP)

Applicants interested in either medical education or clinical research focused on women’s health, rather than the one-year clinical fellowship, should apply to the appropriate track below:
- Medical Education Track
- Fellows interested in medical education will gain additional expertise in curriculum development and teaching skills for women's health and pursue education scholarship on women’s health topics.
- Fellows will teach women’s health topics to medical students and residents. Fellows will also continue to provide longitudinal and consultative care for women.
- Clinical Research Track
- Fellows choosing the clinical research pathway will work with a research mentor to pursue scholarly work around women’s health research topics.
- Fellows will continue to provide longitudinal and consultative care for women.
- Medical Education Track

- The Johns Hopkins Center for Women's Health, Sex, and Gender Research (JH CWHSGR): The mission of the center is to expand scientific leadership and promote discovery in women’s health, sex, and gender research by bringing together multidisciplinary faculty and mentoring trainees from across Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.
- The Johns Hopkins-Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (JH BIRCWH) Program: This career development and training initiative promotes an appreciation for women’s health as well as sex and gender differences.
- Seed Grant Program: Supported by the Johns Hopkins SCORE and the Foundation for Gender-Specific Medicine to stimulate innovative research in sex/gender differences conducted by early-stage investigators.
- Annual networking and mentoring events to promote interdisciplinary mentorship
- Annual Women’s Health, Sex and Gender Research Symposium to showcase junior faculty and trainee research

- Women’s health consultations are offered for patients within the Division of GIM at Johns Hopkins.
- The Johns Hopkins Women’s Wellness and Healthy Aging Program (WWHAP) is a program dedicated to coordinating women’s healthcare before, during and beyond menopause. This program includes providers and specialists from multiple departments and divisions across Johns Hopkins, and also focuses on educating providers on caring for women going through menopause.
- We collaborate with many women’s health-focused clinics at Johns Hopkins, including the Women’s Cardiovascular Health Center (Division of Cardiology), the Healthful Eating, Activity, & Weight Program (GIM), Menopause Clinic and Colposcopy Clinic (Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics), the Reproductive Mental Health Center (Department of Psychiatry), and more!
- Women’s health consultations are offered for patients within the Division of GIM at Johns Hopkins.
