Introduction

The Baltimore Diabetes Research and Training Center (DRTC) Prevention and Control Core (link) and the General Internal Medicine Methods Core maintain a data resources guide to provide information on administrative, epidemiologic, and clinical databases. Those data resources can be used to conduct secondary data analyses and to develop new ancillary studies.

Public-Use Epidemiologic Databases: DRTC and GIM faculty members have extensive experiences on analyzing large-scale public-use nationwide survey data collected by CDC and local State governments.

Administrative Databases: Administrative databases collected by government agencies such as CMS and AHRQ, can be used to study health outcomes, quality of care, cost-effectiveness studies, and clinical epidemiology. In addition, AHRQ’s DEcIDE Network conducts accelerated practical studies about the outcomes, comparative clinical effectiveness, safety, and appropriateness of health care items and services. The DEcIDE Network Center at Johns Hopkins (GIM and DRTC faculty: Eric Bass, Jodi Segal) is organized to support the rapid formation of multi-disciplinary teams for assigned projects and to expeditiously complete these projects.

Single/Multi-Centers Epidemiologic Databases: Massive epidemiologic data were collected at Hopkins and University of Maryland through government or private-funded observational studies and clinical trials.
