This fellowship focuses on the neurobiology/neuropathology and pathogenic mechanisms involved in illnesses, particularly amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Our group has examined in vitro and in vivo experimental systems emphasizing animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, gene targeting and transgenic approaches. Other priority areas are neurotrophic factors and their influence on injured neurons; the biology of brain tumors with an emphasis on the roles of specific genes in neoplasm and mechanisms of cell injury in hypoxia-ischemia.Program Director(s)

Neuroplastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

In partnership with both the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Department of Neurosurgery, a one-year neuroplastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship trains future academic leaders in adult craniomaxillofacial and neurocranial reconstruction. We are proud to report that this fellowship is the nation’s first-ever surgical fellowship concentrating on combined training related to neuroplastic and reconstructive surgery. The fellowship opportunity is available to all physicians who have completed a residency in plastic surgery approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, with one available position per year.

Neuroradiology's one-year ACGME-approved clinical fellowship covers the gamut of neuroradiology. In the two-year program, fellows serve as instructors in their second year and are therefore required to be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in Maryland. Established in 1999, this ACGME equivalent fellowship is directly related to the nuclear medicine residency program. -

Johns Hopkins is home to one of the nation's fellowship training programs in obesity medicine, and is a member of the Obesity Medicine Fellowship Council. The Johns Hopkins Obesity Medicine Fellowship will welcome its first fellow in July 2021, and is supported by an Obesity Medicine Fellowship Program Development Grant. A diversity of patients and obstetric disease, coupled with superior clinical expertise provides the backbone for our clinical fellowship training in obstetric anesthesia. Together, our hospital and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center perform over 4,000 deliveries annually. Obstetric fellows have the opportunity to participate in the education of our residents as well as consult and collaborate with our obstetric team. -

The program will last for one or more years and involves microscopic and molecular studies of tumors and other diseases of the eye and orbit. Fellows will evaluate and dissect human and rodent eye specimens and perform microscopic and immunohistochemical/immunofluorescence analyses on the tissues.
