For the last 10 years, he has been a permanent staple in the cardiovascular surgical intensive care unit and has mentored, counseled and encouraged thousands of residents, advanced practice providers, fellows, medical students and trainees. His patient-centered, team-based approach to care is respected, and his calm, focused demeanor makes him approachable and fosters communication and collaboration among the team. Kim has been physically present in the unit for weeks at a time, working diligently to develop a COVID-19 ECMO program, including protocols and action plans. He has made himself available 24/7 for consultation for those house officers taking care of patients, and has worked tirelessly to continue to teach and support new traveling health care professionals, off-service covering trainees and new staff members.

As medical director of Sibley Memorial’s intensive care unit, Jason Rose has led the unit through a trying year, with greatly increased clinical responsibilities. In addition to helping develop new physical capacity in several areas for COVID-19 intensive care unit patients, Rose helped coordinate treatment algorithms and kept the entire ICU team well-versed in emerging therapies and evidence for the treatment of the virus. He led from the front lines, and provided exemplary clinical care to the sickest patients at Sibley. He skillfully coordinates care with numerous consultants. Clinical rounds with the care team are always educational and include a thorough review and plan of care for the patient.

Sonia Qasba has been relentless in her efforts to eliminate hospital-acquired infections.
