Justin Olsen is the vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. As COO, he oversees ancillary, ambulatory and support services. His position within the executive team provides operational direction for the organization and supports a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. 

Olsen’s more than 20 years’ experience in health care operations include a decade of proven success in process improvement, strategic growth and optimizing business operations in pediatric academic medical centers. Most recently, Olsen was vice president and COO of SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, a 195-bed hospital and teaching facility for the St. Louis University School of Medicine. He was responsible for support services, ancillary services, construction, strategic projects and the operational functions within emergency services, the urgent care network and clinical service lines. He also founded and chaired the hospital’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.

Before his tenure at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, Olsen served as senior vice president and COO at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, where he directed a $300 million construction project, and led a collaborative effort to improve patient engagement scores by 50 percentage points. As a management consultant for a national firm, he led a complex service line reorganization that achieved $60 million in recurring savings for a large Midwest health system and managed the opening of a virtual urgent care program for a large health system in the Northern Plains. 

Olsen holds Juris Doctor and Master of Healthcare Administration degrees from Saint Louis University and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Sociology from the University of Utah. He served on the Texas Health and Human Services Medicaid Advisory Team and was a member of several community organizations, including the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Ronald McDonald House.
