John Heyl, M.S., C.P.A.
Vice President for Financial Analysis, Budget and Decision Support
John Heyl was appointed vice President for financial analysis, budget and decision support, for Johns Hopkins Medicine in October 2020.
He is responsible for leading the budgeting process, financial analysis and planning, and financial decision support activities for Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM). Since stepping into this role, he has been a leader in JHM budget transformation efforts, focusing on both improvement and consistency in processes and systemic tools that underlie the JHM budgeting process.
John joined the Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) in March 2012 as director of financial reporting and general accounting in the JHHS Controller’s Office, with direct oversight of accounting and financial reporting for Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. In 2017, he became an assistant controller for JHHS, and had departmental oversight of all JHM hospital accounting and financial reporting teams, as well as direct oversight for The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He enacted significant improvements to JHHS accounting and financial reporting core policies and processes, and was the primary finance contact regarding the COVID-19 pandemic’s financial impact.
Before joining Johns Hopkins, John managed general accounting and financial reporting for the Anne Arundel Health System. He was also a manager in the audit and enterprise risk services function at Deloitte and Touche in Baltimore, Maryland.
John earned a bachelor of business administration and a master of science in accountancy from the University of Notre Dame. He is a licensed certified public accountant.
