JoAnn Ioannou, D.N.P., M.B.A.
Vice President, Strategic Initiatives
JoAnn Ioannou joined the Johns Hopkins Health System in August 2022. As the special adviser for strategic Initiatives, she leads strategic projects including implementation and oversight of health system objectives. She is also an associate faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.
Ioannou collaborates with staff members and senior leaders across the health system to identify and prioritize strategic needs and create meaningful and actionable inputs.
Previously, she was the executive vice president of hospital operations and the chief nursing officer at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC), where she oversaw clinical, financial and daily operational activities, including all inpatient services, care management services, emergency and crisis response, oncology services, hospital procurement, pharmacy, lab and support services, and nursing education.
Ioannou’s relationship with Johns Hopkins Medicine dates back several years. She first joined The Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1993 as a clinical nurse intern. She worked her way up the ranks to leadership roles, which included nurse clinician III, shift coordinator, nurse manager and assistant director of medical nursing. From 2013 to 2015, Ioannou served as the director of neurosciences/psychiatry nursing — she managed the clinical, financial and daily operational activities of the neurosciences and psychiatry departments.
Ioannou has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Towson University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Villa Julie College (Stevenson University). She earned master’s degrees in nursing and business administration and a doctorate in nursing practice from The Johns Hopkins University.
