Cindy Merz
Vice President of Development for Suburban Hospital
Cindy Merz currently serves as Vice President of Development for Suburban Hospital as well as maintaining her prior role as Director of Philanthropy for the Suburban Hospital Foundation. In this capacity, Ms. Merz is responsible for directing all philanthropic activity for the hospital including identifying principal and major gift opportunities, engaging clinical staff to help inspire grateful patient fundraising, collaborating with leadership at the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, and overseeing a development team and separate Board of Trustees for the Foundation.
Ms. Merz joined Suburban Hospital, 24 years ago, in July 1996 as a Publications Manager in the Marketing Communications Department and served as Director of Communications from 1999-2009. Following the integration with Johns Hopkins Medicine, Ms. Merz transitioned to the Foundation to help lead strategic and philanthropic initiatives for the upcoming capital campaign and campus expansion. As a major and principal gifts fundraiser since 2013, Ms. Merz personally helped secure more than $20M to support hospital priorities.
Prior to moving to the DC region, Ms. Merz worked in marketing communications for the Christiana Care Health System in Delaware. She received her BA degree as an honors scholar in Communications and Marketing from James Madison University and also holds a MS in Management and Healthcare Administration from the University of Maryland University College.
