Alexander Brown

Vice President, Development and Alumni Relations

Alexander Brown joined Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) in October 2024 as vice president of development and alumni relations. Brown leads fundraising and alumni relations for the fund, which supports JHM's world class patient care, medical education and research.

Brown joined JHM from Emory University in Atlanta. His career at Emory spanned more than 22 years, including his most recent position as vice president for advancement. In that role, Brown oversaw principal gifts and corporate and foundation relations. He also played a leadership role in two comprehensive campaigns that collectively raised more than $5 billion, he led solicitation of more than $1.1 billion in gifts and he collaborated with key stakeholders to secure transformative investments and high dollar principal gifts.

Brown's career also includes serving as interim vice president for the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center and associate vice president for the Emory University School of Medicine and Emory Healthcare. He has held several interim roles including chief development officer for the Goizueta Business School and the Winship Cancer Institute, both at Emory University, and executive director for corporate and foundation relations.

Brown received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Emory. He began his career in grant writing for a national nonprofit before joining his alma mater.
