About Joseph Bernard Margolick

Background

Dr. Joseph B. Margolick holds a joint appointment in medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is a professor of molecular microbiology and immunology, of environmental health sciences and of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Margolick’s research focuses on the cellular immunology and pathogenesis of HIV infection.

He is currently engaged in studies that include ALIVE (AIDS Linked to the IntraVenous Experience) and SHIELD (The Study of HIV Infection in the Etiology of Lung Disease).

Dr. Margolick earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. He is trained in medicine, experimental pathology and immunology.

He is the director of the HPTN Network Laboratory’s Immunology Core and a co-director of the Becton Dickinson Immune Function Laboratory. He also serves on the Institutional Biosafety Committee.

  • Research in the Joseph Margolick Lab focuses on the many effects of HIV/AIDS on human health. We are particularly interested in the mechanisms of T-cell loss and preservation among people infected with HIV and the evaluation of human immune functions.
