The Division of Addiction Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center works to promote and improve the provision of medical care to patients with substance use disorders and co-morbid medical conditions through:

  • The creation and dissemination of knowledge related to the medical care of individuals with a substance use disorder.
  • The development, maintenance and evaluation of innovative programs related to the care of individuals with a substance use disorder.
  • The mentorship of current and future clinicians in providing sensitive expert care to individuals with a substance use disorder.

Comprehensive Care Practice (CCP)

The Comprehensive Care Practice (CCP) is a primary care clinic that offers a full range of primary care services. Addiction Medicine Unit (AMU)

The Addiction Medicine Unit (AMU), formerly known as the Chemical Dependence Unit, is an 18-bed inpatient unit that provides comprehensive medical detoxification services for patients using alcohol or opiates. Inpatient Addiction Consult Service

Started in 2017, the Addiction Consult Service is part of Expanded Behavioral Health Team and provides specialty consultation services for patients with substance use disorder who are admitted to inpatient units at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The interdisciplinary team is comprised of addiction medicine attendings, addiction medicine fellows, health behavioral specialists and peer recovery specialists. Services include management of medical complications of substance use disorder, initiation of medications for substance use disorder (including buprenorphine for opioid use disorder) and linkage to addiction treatment after discharge.

The Consult Service works closely with the inpatient psychiatry consult service to provide integrated behavioral health services and improve care for patients with substance use disorders and behavioral health.
