Background

Dr. Anne Ruble is Director of The Jerome Frank Program in Psychotherapy and Associate Program Director of the Johns Hopkins Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Adult Psychiatry Training Program. 

She completed her undergraduate degree at Kenyon College and her medical and M.P.H. training at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She completed her adult psychiatry residency and the Alexander Wilson Schweizer fellowship in mood disorders at Johns Hopkins. 

She has a community psychiatry outpatient practice at Johns Hopkins Hospital Community Psychiatry Clinic and teaches family therapy to the PGY-3 residents utilizing emotionally focused psychotherapy and attachment. Her interests include best practices in psychotherapy supervision, video-based education for residents, patients, and families, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in psychotherapy. She is currently developing a curriculum for integration of broaching culture, ethnicity, and gender in supportive psychotherapy to strengthen therapeutic alliance between residents and patients. 

She is the Co-Medical Director for the Broadway Center for Addiction outpatient substance use program and has an interest in psychotherapy for co-occurring disorders.

Research Summary

Dr. Ruble’s research efforts include her work to adapt the Adolescent Depression Awareness Program (ADAP) into a smartphone and tablet application that can be used by adolescents and their families.

The goal is to educate adolescents and parents—and ultimately to improve treatment adherence and long-term prognoses for adolescents receiving psychiatric care.

Dr. Ruble also is developing an educational program about affective (mood) disorders, for use by primary care physicians.
